As part of our ongoing R&D efforts, our team explored a complete fur and hair workflow using Blender and Unreal Engine. The objective was to achieve high-quality, real-time fur rendering that’s both visually appealing and performance-friendly.
Our Process:
-
We began by grooming detailed fur in Blender, focusing on natural flow, strand behavior, and layer depth.
-
The assets were then seamlessly transferred to Unreal Engine, where we set up materials and lighting to test visual fidelity in real-time environments.
-
Our team also tackled performance optimization, ensuring the fur runs efficiently even under dynamic lighting and complex camera movement.
The Outcome:
The results were impressive — realistic fur that holds up in cinematic and gameplay scenarios, with real-time responsiveness. It was a rewarding blend of artistic control and technical precision.
What’s Next:
This R&D is already influencing our upcoming character and creature pipelines. We’re now extending the same approach to include cloth, fluid, and muscle simulation to further push realism in real-time projects.
